Where can I Get Answers to My Federal Income Tax Questions?

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Help

From February through mid-April, our tax counselors are available at our Tax-Aide sites to answer your tax questions.

When Thurston County Tax-Aide sites are closed for the tax season, you may also submit a request for tax help from one of the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Online tax assistors.  

Your can also find a number of Frequently Asked Questions concerning Tax-Aide and various federal tax topics on the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Online Tax Assistance webpage. There you will find information concerning filing requirements; filing status and dependents; income; adjustments to income, including deductions and credits; payments, refunds, and taxes owed; and other questions commonly raised.

The Interactive Tax Assistant is a tool on IRS.gov that can help taxpayers with various tax law questions, including: 

    * Who needs to file a tax return. 

    * What is the best filing status to use. 

    * Who can claim a dependent. 

    * Who is eligible to claim a credit or deduct certain expenses.

IRS Individual Online Account

 

Taxpayers may also want to create or access their IRS Individual IRS Individual Online Account to get information they need to file their return. With an IRS Individual Online Account, taxpayers can

 

  • View balance owed, payment history and schedule payments.

  • Cancel scheduled payments – new feature for 2024.

  • Get transcripts.

  • View or create payment plans.

  • See digital copies of some IRS notices.

  • View key data from their most recently filed tax return, including adjusted gross income.

  • Validate bank accounts and save multiple accounts, eliminating the need to re-enter bank account information every time they make a payment.

  • View, approve and electronically sign power of attorney and tax information authorizations from their tax professional.
